The provincial government has set a five-year housing target for Surrey, aiming for 27,256 new homes by June 30, 2029. Annual reports will be provided to the minister of housing on progress. The targets include 4,233 homes for 2024-2025, increasing each year. Surrey's general manager of planning noted over 44,300 units are awaiting construction and 13,700 have building permits. The city has implemented over 25 process improvements to expedite housing project approvals. Council will vote on related recommendations on January 27.
