Surrey surpasses goal for new housing under federal ‘accelerator’ fund

The City of Surrey has until September 2027 to utilize $95.6 million from the Housing Accelerator Fund to enhance housing supply and community development. A recent report indicates that Surrey's Action Plan aims for a 27.8% increase in housing supply, targeting 12,850 dwellings by December 2026. As of December 4, 2024, the city has already achieved 6,028 dwellings, surpassing its target. Councillor Linda Annis and Mayor Brenda Locke expressed optimism about the progress and the federal funding's impact on project acceleration.
