Surrey exceeding provincially mandated housing targets

Surrey, BC, is exceeding its housing targets, delivering 2,567 new housing units and advancing 10,096 units in the first six months of a provincial Order. The city aims to meet a five-year goal of 27,256 new units by June 2029. Mayor Brenda Locke emphasizes the need for provincial investment in infrastructure to support this growth. Over 44,300 units await construction, and more than 25 process improvements have been implemented to streamline housing project approvals, including early excavation permits and simplified development processes.
